Same car, same symptoms Posted by Gene N [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Diagnosticians: Sticky boost gauge indication- means..., Kevin M ![]() |
I have the same car and it had the exact same symptoms. First off, when the LH computer(the fuel injection system)sets the CEL, it also sends a signal to the DI/APC system to limit the boost to base boost level. That is where the symptom of the boost only going half-way into the yellow comes from. If you pull the LH CEL codes, you will probably find it has the "too lean/too rich code" set. I don't know why it can't be more specific, but it means the air/fuel mixture is out band. There is just enough of a problem for the system to be out of adjustment in a naturally lean situation, when the engine is hot with a high vacuum. For me, it meant there was an air leak. I did what you did, replaced all of the hoses, and it did help, but didn't solve the problem completely.
What seemed to fix the problem for me for the last year, is to replace the rubber bushing on the valve cover where the Y-shaped plastic nipple is. This the one where the small line connects to the intake through the one-way valve, and the large line runs down to the turbo intake. When I took the bushing out, it was very loose and deformed from being subjected to the hot crankcase fumes. For good measure, replace all the other intake bushings that the vacuum nipples connect to.
I don't know if it will help, but the bushings are cheap, and it worked on my car.
