He has had uneven success with reman axles (all years) and won't use them. He has to warranty his work, so he doesn't want to have to do it again if the reman unit is bad, which he says happens too often. He removes the axle and replaces the outer joint if it's bad. Very thorough job.
Like Anders says, the axle is not usually going to be bad, just the joint or tripod bearing.
