Octane Problem. Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Fri, 18 Apr 2008 19:08:30 In Reply to: BPC Problem., John, Fri, 18 Apr 2008 17:17:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
If you are in the US (our octane measurement is different than elsewhere), 87 octane is the lowest grade gasoline that you can buy. Low octane gas will cause the ECU to limit your boost, particularly in an Aero, as it will detect preignition, i.e. knock, when the boost kicks in.
At the current price of $3.69 per gallon, the $.20/gallon extra for 93 octane premium gasoline is only about 5% more than regular - try a tankful and see if your boost improves.
If you are having inconsistent results, you might want to spray some cleaner (electronics, brake, or whatever) in the BPC, shake it around, dump it out.
