Start with the easy stuff-
Turn the key to ON, but don't try and start the car. Do you get dash warning lights? ABS, BAT, that sort of thing? If not, the problem is most likely the ignition switch. Not the bit with the key, but the electrical switch right behind it. Those dash lights are on the same electrical circuit as the fuel injection system, ignition, etc.

OK, so you do have lights; now what? Turn the car off, make sure the radio is off, and pull out fuse 23 for at least 5 seconds. Open the trunk and stick your head in. Get an assistant turn turn the key to ON, but don't start the car. Do you hear the fuel pump run? It'll run for about 2 seconds. The fuel pump is under the trunk floor on the left side of the car, right up by the backseat. If you hear the pump run, suspect the direct ignition cassette (DIC). If you don't hear the pump, it could be the fuel pump, but it could also be the fuel pump relay, or a few other things.

If you've got a meter and some tools, follow this step-by-step procedure. You may have to leave some stuff out, depending on what you can and can't do because of lack of tools:
