headunit installation/alarm problem (long)

I am in the process of installing a new aftermarket headunit in my 1996 9000cs. After reading a lot of older posts, I decided to try to splice the headunit harness speaker outputs into the output wires from the saab amplifier under the passenger seat. I unplugged the two power plugs on the right side of the amp that appear to power the seat motors and unscrewed 2 T25 screws to allow better access to the long rectangular multiwire plug on the inboard side of the amp. I can't seem to get the plug entirely out of the amp. I tried reconnecting the seat so that I could move it around to allow better access, but as soon as I reconnect the negative battery cable the alarm goes off and the only way it will stop bleating is disconnecting the battery cable again. What I am doing wrong? Is the amp somehow tied into more than just the audio system? Help?
