Yes, the gasket may only be a year old, but it may not have been installed properly. That area should have a thin layer of sealer applied to both surfaces of the gasket. I like using Loctite 518. If it wasn't installed properly, you can slather RTV on the surface all you want, and it'll still leak.
Replacing a valve cover gasket isn't hard. It's about an hour's work. The gasket is all of $4.50 (before shipping) from eEuroparts. Loctite 518 is about $8 from a local autoparts store. Remove the DI, remove the valve cover, scrape off the old gasket, apply a small bead of sealant on the valve cover, stick on the gasket, apply a small bead of sealant on the head, reinstall. The only trick is that the bolts have a very low torque setting - only 11 foot pounds.
