MUST READ FOR ALL 9000 OWNERS RE: MOTORMOUNTS/BELT !!! Posted by Frank [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Hey everybody !
My 93 9000 cse t made a horroile vibarating noise, coming from the pass side of the engine. After consulting six mechanics, estimating repair ranging from timing chain, balance shaft, throttle body, abs cassette, crank pulley, etc. blah blah blah, with repair cost between 1000 - 3500 ... I made a last attempt to figure it out by myself.
Here's what happened:
The bottom motormounts collapsed, even though they looked o.k from the top.
The engine sagged down, and the serpentine belt touched the block right on top by the ac unit.
Next thing you know, the belt shredded, and things got noisy.
Had the belt and motor mounts replaced.
car drove better, but horrible noise starting at 2000 rpm.
drove like crap.
Took wheelarch out and examined pulleys.
A piece of the shredded belt got caught behind the power steering pulley, causing all kinds of problems form sluggish throttle, to noise, vibration, timing issues etc.
Removed shredded piece with needle nose, while slowlyt turning pulley counterclockwise by hand.
Put everything back together.
Car drives like brand new !
I just saved $3000.
Moral : CHECK AND CHANGE YOUR MOTORMOUNTS AND BELT FREQUENTLY.
Also: mechanics are pretty much useless. Six of them couldn't figure this out, and one certifired Saab mech even claimed my car had no balance shafts !
WOW.
I hope this posting helps someone ...
