I realize the nature of manual transmissions. I guess the reason I asked for clarification is due to the nature of my original question. What does your manual transmission oil smell like?
I found it interesting that the oil in my transmission smelled much the same as MTF smells. I was wondering if the transmission environment causes the smell that I associate with MTF, or if the MTF simply has a diferent smell to it that oil.
As for the replacement time frame, I think you're right. However, Saab indicates that the fluid in my car never needs replacement (which I think is crazy). Later 9000s came with drain plugs and a regular interval recommended.
Anyway, thanks for the input. I'll be siphoning my oil sometime soon here, and replacing with 10-40.
