I have a '91 9000 automatic and a '94 Aero manual, and both have silicone mounts. The automatic has always felt rough, both before and after the silicone mounts. The manual is smooth. I've test driven a bunch of automatics, and they all seem to feel rough. I think Saab did something wrong on the automatics, as it feels like there is a mechanical 'short' someplace.
Regarding the silicone mounts, I actually checked the top mounts with a mechanics ear (screwdriver works OK), and as I move from the forward mount to the bulkhead mount the vibration is reduced to almost nothing.
If anything, and if the mounts are filled properly, the silicone being 'softer' than the rubber mounts, should actually be better.
I don't think I went to the trouble of centering the mounts, but I did pull out the bulkhead mount as it was easy to come off. But I did the engine side mount on the car.
Like I've said in the past, if you don't like the results, you're out $5 worth of silicone. Remember, use black GE silicone in caulking gun size (lots of other uses), and spit on finger will allow you to smooth it out.
