Probably not cruise control. If you've run a series of bad (or even one) BPCs through the car, and now you stick in a known good one, I'd feel safe saying the ECU has a problem. The transistor in the ECU is NOT designed to drive into a shorted coil. It will die.
I went to Google and typed in the three search terms Trionic Repair Saab and it lead me to a page showing a procedure for repairing an ECU damaged by a bad BPC. This site's policies prevent posting that link, but Google works just fine.
