A/C stays on even with motor off

We took our 1994 Turbo CSE to a shop which specialised in A/C and they replaced the wire to the compressor for $320. The next morning the battery was completely drained. On recharging the battery, I discovered that the compressor clutch got very warm. Found that the clutch stays engaged even with the motor off, key out, draining the battery.
I'm about to dig into the relay, which thanks to a diagramme posted here, I have determined is somewhere behind the fuse panel. It's a $80 relay, so if anyone has any alternative ideas, please let me know. Could it simply be the relay?
We have already been turned away from a Saab dealership because our car is 'too old', and now the shop that performed the work won't look at it because they are 'booked up for weeks'. Took the day off of work to look at it myself, as it seems that auto mechanics around here are like HMO doctors; i.e. won't or can't diagnose, don't stand by their work, and throw back small fish.
Thanks!
Rob
