Sounds a lot like the lead that goes to the temperature sender. Check if your temperature gauge on the dash moves at all. The lead slides in sideways to a small copper top-hat (for want of a better word) at the end of the sensor. The sensor is located on the head more or less below the distributor, close to the block.
