I posted a while back about transmission whine in my '93 Aero 5 spd.
Per you recommendations, I replaced the trans oil. I went with 10w40 dino juice. I siphoned all that I could out. Then, I filled trans (above the fill line on the dip stick) and ran the car through all the gears (on jack stands) and siphoned it again, then over-filled it and ran it through the gears. Then I siphoned it one last time, and filled it to the fill line on the dip stick. I kept track of how much oil came out, and how much I put in, so there wasn't even any guess work in making sure it was to the right level at the end. I checked the level with the dipstick to confirm, and I've driven it 500-600 miles since.
After about 500 miles, the whine is significantly reduced. It's hard to say if it's "gone" or if it ever was truly not there in the first place, but it's much better.
While the car was up on stands (two days were spent on this project, since I was in no hurry, and the siphoning I did over night), I also replaced all my vacuum hoses with new silicon hoses. It looks great, and the intermittent CEL is fixed, since the new hoses don't have any cracks and don't decide to pop off the intake manifold at odd times.
So, thanks for the input and suggestions. This site is fantastic.
