After having owned 9000's for over ten years, I've finally figured out how to improve the AC or at least the air distribution.
I like to distribute cold air to both my face and feet, but it always seemed like once I went to shared distribution, cooling seemed to drop off quite a bit, especially on days when temp was over 90.
I finally had a 'eureka' moment last week, and realized that once I sent air to the floor, I was also sending quite a bit to the back seats. Under each front seat are two vents, which I plugged with paper towels.
Cooling is much improved, and if I ever have a backseat passenger, he can cook for all I care.
BTW, I just did my '97 Mercedes today, with the same results.
Best part is that if you don't like the results, pull out the paper towels.
