There is nothing called Tachometer sender on the car. The tachometer gauge in the dash receives a RPM signal from the Trionic engine computer. The Trionic system derives the engine speed from the Crank Position Sensor (CPS) located near the flywheel, on your model. Failure of the CPS would prevent the car from running at all, so the CPS is unlikely to be the problem.
So, your two candidates for intermittent operation are the connection to the back of the instrument panel, and the tachometer gauge itself. I would rule out the instrument cluster grounding point (underneath the dash) because a whole lot of other things in the cluster would be intermittent if grounding was the problem. Try re-seating the plug on the back of the cluster, first. After that, replace the gauge.
