I do mean dash vent grilles. I've removed them a few times to clean them out over the years, but I forget exactly what I did. I think maybe just loosen the dash top? To do that, you just remove the dash speaker covers and unscrew the screws holding down the dash top. Then, the dash face pulls out an inch or so, enough to lift out the vent grilles. Or possibly, I also loosened the dash face at the bottom first. In that case, you would pry up the trim piece around the shift lever, and then access the screws and loosen them. Then remove the trim piece between the seat heater switches and the CTS and blank; there's something (another screw?) behind it, and IIRC, that's all that holds the dash front on. Then, you can easily remove the vent grilles, and access the duct to vacuum it out. You will find that a vacuum at a car wash will have more suction than your domestic vacuum.
