weird external temperature reading Posted by TML [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
('96 Aero)
Recently I noticed the external temperature was reading about 7C low. This played havoc with the ACC, because for example if it was 23C outside and I had the desired temperature set to 20C, it would revert to outside air (thinking it was 16C instead of 23C).
Not sure whether the sensor itself was at fault, I got a used one from a pick'n'pull. It was from an '88, but appeared to be the same part.
Before swapping, I checked the reading. It said 20C, while I knew it was actually at least 25C outside. I disconncted the sensor (was really difficult, seemed to be some minor corrosion on the connector), and checked the reading again. As I expected, it read ---. I put the "new" sensor on, then it read -40C. Whoops, maybe they're not the same part after all. It drifted slowly up to about -32C. I put the old sensor back on, and to my surprise it still reads -32C. WTF? I tried re-calibrating the ACC, to no effect.
Now I'm stumped. It seems like the act of hot swapping the sensor has fubar'ed the whole system, but I've had that sensor completely torn off on another 9k Aero for a couple of months with no permanent ill effects.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
