Right rear brake hanging - started smoking! Posted by AdamB [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
After having parked (with handbrake pulled), I started the car, lowered the brake and pulled away. Immediately I could tell that something was dragging, but figured I could make it 500 yards to the gas station nearby. When I got there it was smoking from the right rear brakepads and the wheel was quite hot. After banging on the wheel bolts a bit and going back and forth with the car a couple of times I think I got the caliper to unstick and was able to drive a mile to my home without further smoke.
So my question is this: I guess this was caused by using the parking brake, but is it the caliper that needs to be overhauled? I've got new front brake discs and pads which I was going to have put on next week. The rears were done pretty recently, but with this happening, would it be a good idea to put on new discs and pads there also?
Thanks!
