1997 9000 Aero, 125K miles
Spent the last few days doing head gasket ( a job I've been putting off but finally bit the bullet), but now that I'm reasembling I'm worried about timing and sequence of re-assembly..
When I put the cam gears back on, having aligned the mark on the crank pulley as well as the cam gear marks, when I screw in the tensioner, the crank moves(?)
I had slack between the two cam gears when I replaced them using the Haynes instructions so now I'm confused.
Having searched this fine board, I've seen comments saying how easy it is to get one tooth out and thought I'd seek reasurance before doing something expensive :-)
Should I have put the tensioner in first? (I did reset the tensioner, installed the body of tensioner, then put the cap, spring and screwed in the 14mm bolt that compresses it all).
This is my first HG job and up till now I've been very pleased with progress (and myself) but just need guidance on timing steps and reasembly of chain, cogs, tensioner and timing.
Thanks all
Andy (West London)
