Post mileage of when fuel pump was replaced...

I'm starting to get antsy over the fact that the fuel pump is still original in my 9K with 144K miles. Since I commute 120 miles per day across 3 states, it stands to reason that every day I wonder if I'll be left stranded at my work's parking lot (that would stink!) due to a dead fuel pump. I'd like to know when others have had to replace the fuel pump to give me an idea of how long these things last. In fact, the fuel gauge just started to give me grief 2 days ago, exposing erratic behavior even though I had just filled up the gas tank.
I'm considering replacing it as preventive measure, but I've always been the type to "not fix what ain't broke". I already bought a replacement VR for the alternator as the one in my 900 crapped out after 140K miles and left me stuck in a park-and-ride almost 70 miles from home (thanks to Dave Ingram for the hospitality of allowing the car to be towed to his driveway in order for me to fix it the following day). From that experience, I'm assuming the one in the 9K is not far off from dying, either.
Everything else that might cause catastrophic disaster has been updated (DI, heater and coolant hoses, hg, etc.). The only things left are the VR and fuel pump. Well, maybe even the water pump, but I'm knocking on wood right now in order to save that chore for another month.
What says you????
Joe
