I'm not sure where you are referring to when you reference the delivery pipe or hose fitting.
If you are getting air into the cat after the front O2 sensor, or after the cat and before the aft O2 sensor, that can cause the O2 sensor to read wrong. Backfiring is often a sign of an air leak in the exhaust system. That would be a reasonable place to start.
Clearing the CEL and waiting to see if it comes back is a pretty good start. Sometimes stuff just does go away. But I'd check for cracks and air leaks in the exhaust system.
