I changed my mind and kept the transmission in the car that had a dead V6. I replaced the V6 with a 2.3 non-turbo. Both cars are 1995 900 convertibles.
The 2.3 has a flywheel while the V6 has what's called a flex plate. They both use 8 bolts to attach to the crank but the V6 pattern has a smaller diameter. The torque converters are also different and the diameter of bolt holes is different again. I chose to keep the V6 torque converter with the V6 tranny. Flywheel & flex plate are the same diameter with same teeth. I put the two together and filed the crank holes in the flex plate out to the same (larger) diameter as the 2.3. I then knocked the center hub out of the 2.3 flywheel to give the flexplate more clearance from the engine back plate. The flex plate has a larger center hole so I tried to get it centered as I tightened it.
Mated it to the 2.3 engine, put both back into the SE body. Have not finished putting everything back together yet so final verdict will not be in for a couple more days.
