Well, my rear driver side door had been used so little it had an awful sqruork noise every time I opened and closed it. Fixed THAT.

Had the inner door panel off, so went after that noise, nearly last fix on that door.

With a T-40 bit, and a wobble adapter from ratchet, loosened and removed the bolt that holds the "strap" piece to a bracket on the door post. Then two 10mm nuts and the works passes back inside the door and can be wiggled out.

Then it's kind of a challenge to get it lubed. There are two roller wheels, on a sort of S shaped spring, and the shaft of the strap, with a few detent cam-bump sort of places along it, runs between the rollers, and with it extended, they're under pressure and can't spin to work lube in.

I happen to have a big old gear driven arbor press and used that to squeeze the strap down into the thing. Far enough in and it moves without tension. Then squirted heavy oil onto the rollers, at the inside where they roll on the spring, and worked it lots of times in and out. Also lubed where the S spring sits in a trough as it moves from top side to bottom, in case it swivels in that trough and squawks there some.

Then I put a dab of grease on the cam places on the "strap," and reinstalled it all.

Voila, as they say, or maybe better, keeping with the French thing, entends-la. Quoi, vous me dites, vous n'entendez rien? That's zackly right, you don't hear nothing, no squawk, no noise, nada.

I didn't want to do this just with spray stuff, and I didn't want to try doing it blind without knowing how it was put together. On the other side, which is quiet, I think I'll lube anyway, and try just putting the pump oiler inside the door one handed, and knowing where, pump away, then swing door. Wipe up excess from inside.
