Hi all, just curious about my DI's early demise any thoughts/inputs are welcomed. I have a '98 CSE auto with a DI that I purchased new from a site sponsor approximately two years/7000 miles ago. Early this spring, I had a idle problem that was cured with the replacement of the IAC valve. Next I noticed that the vacuum lines were not in the best shape, so most of them were replaced with the silicone variety, I also cleaned and re-gapped the spark plugs (wasn't that far-off from spec.) at the same time. But while the engine used to start in just a couple of turns now it takes a few more seconds, I never gave it much thought, since while it never improved it never got worse either. Fast foward to a month ago, the car failed to start a few times due to a weak battery. I couldn't find the time to pick up a new battery until two weeks ago, by then, the battery won't even hold a charge (BTW the volt meter on the dash have indicated 9.5~10.5 up until a month ago when it would read 8-ish). So I started the car with my portable charger and off to the autoparts store I go, running on, presumably the alternator. After I purchased the ONLY battery they had in stock (and this is a pretty big and reputable auto-chain) I was confident that I could replace the battery in their parking lot, return the dead battery and be on my way all in less than 10 minutes. Well after the new battery went in... no start. The battery had the proper voltage, all the connections checked, and the dash lit up like it was supposed to when the key is turned and I thought I heard the fuel pump running. Then I did the only thing i could do at the time, whip-out the spare DI and said to myself "nah, it can't be this", turned out, it was. Reading some old posts, I'm welling to accept that this might be a dud-DI but I'm wondering if any one out there might have other ideas from reading some of the clues I provided. Would it have made a difference if I replaced the battery sooner? Should I have unplugged the DI while I replaced the battery? Is there a proper proceedure for battery replacement of 9000's? Inquiring mind want to know! TIA
