Also, Saabnutt, I don't think it's really in keeping with the spirit of this site to taunt people for telling ways to save money. I kind of thought that's what the site is all about.

You may be rolling in the stuff but I'm newly unemployed without much prospect of a job in the near future.

And I well remember my own efforts to keep cars going when I had flat no money, and sympathize with anyone in that boat, student or youngster or someone in my situation.

Also, realize that many fixes, while annoying to do, can often yield as good a part as brand new or nearly so. Sometimes with not much more time put in than remove-replace jobs. And, with the benefit, besides not having to buy the new part, of not having to ORDER the part and wait for it to arrive.

The ignition switch for one of these babies costs just over $80 including tax at the local dealer. It is solidly built and I have no doubt the contacts inside it are beefy enough to go back into service after a cleaning. And, aside from drilling the peened-over posts, it's simple pry-the-plastic-catches-apart type disassembly.

I'll keep posting similar how-tos as I see the opportunity to provide them.

Sorry about knocking Lucas products. I hope you don't consider me your enemy from now on because of that. This is the second time since then that you've chimed in to say you think I'm too cheap.
