TAADAA ! Nice, easy mod to get 'em back on. Posted by vtsnaab [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Daytime instrument lighting question, vtsnaab ![]() ![]() |
So there I was fixin a few things and my headlight switch was already
flopping about owing to broken tabs, nothing stopping easy access !
Found one lead with power only with IGN -on- (gr/wh. stripe) and one
that ONLY illuminated the instruments (brown).
Given that they were right next to one another, all it took was about
2" of wire-wrap wire from tab to tab, pushed on the connector right
over that thin wire - and BINGO !
Now I have full brightness instrument lighting whenever the IGN is on.
YAY !!!
Seems like I lost the dimmer function....boohoo - in over 30 years of
driving I have yet to understand why anyone would use that function ?!
For anyone who wants to duplicate my efforts/results I add this:
1.
It seems likely that if your car uses the same light switch as a '94
then the wiring would be the same - but I'd still advise using care
and testing it with a cliplead before making it permanent.
2.
The really important part:
If you've not removed your headlight switch before BE VERY GENTLE !!!
The plastic tabs which hold it in break very, very easily.
I usually remove the dummy switch hole filler below it and push it
out very slowly while also pulling, and still I have broken the tabs.
It is soooo much better being able to see those doggone things again !
Best Wishes.
