Has anyone tried to replace bulbs with LED's?

I recently replaced the map light, dome light, courtesy lights on doors, trunk light, and license plate lights all with a festoon-style LED bulb. Makes the car look a little newer, lasts longer than filament bulbs. There are no issues using these bulbs on small interior/exterior lights as described above.
However, I've always wondered what the 9000 would look like with LED turn signals and brake lights. LED's have come a long way in the past few years and are becoming less expensive and more ingenious (the way they pack 20 or 30 LED's into one apparatus that maintains the shape of the original filament bulb).
The only thing holding me back from spending some more money (would be around $30 for the whole car, includes turn signals, side signals, brake lights, reverse light, high mount stop light), is whether or not the relays would trip out and whether the dash would indicate a bulb issue. They do make a load resistor and a relay for cars that have issues, and they're both cheap.
Has anyone tried to put these new LED bulbs as turn signals or brake lights? If so, were there issues with blinking or issues on the pictogram?
The LED's I'm referring to are a lot brighter than filament bulbs, so don't worry about luminescence as a safety issue.
