odd cranking sound (inconsistat)/long cranking to start Posted by Henry Helfman [Email] ![]() ![]() |
When cranking it makes a skip/crunching/uneven sound. First happened a few weeks ago and has since become more common. (Now every start) Cranking time has increased significantly as well. After it starts, it idles smooth and it drives well. For the first time last night it had a minor hiccup under boosted acceleration. I have not yet had an opportunity to do a compression check.
I believe I am still on my original head gasket and timing chain. I have put 60k on the car in 3 years (15k in past 6 months) It has always been completely stock, at stock boost and never has overheated since I have owned it. I have not changed the DI either. I have always changed plugs every 10k with (fully synthetic) oil changes and did not notice any unusual plug discoloration 3k ago immediately after the first cranking issue. I also re-torqued head bolts at that time.
I will do a compression check this weekend (provided I am not left stranded first)
Does anybody have any guesses or insight?
Thanks
Henry
