At least on my '96 CS and I'd bet on your car too, the door latched indicator on the pictogram is triggered by a magnetic reed switch mounted on the internal latch works in each door, not by the little contact button in the door post that turns the overhead light on.
I also thought at first that the pushbutton in the door post was my problem, as several have suggested might be yours. Then I figured it out.
I haven't yet had my front doors apart, though I plan to soon for latch lubing etc, (as well as switching outer door handles and lock cylinders so all of car works with one key.) But all signs are that they are put together the same as the rears which my info for you is based on.
(I also pulled one of the door post switches because it wasn't always triggering the overhead light. They can be pried apart and button and contacts slid out. Heads up, lots of small parts, location and direction important. I cleaned up the contacts and it now works fine.)
