Engine ticking/tapping at startup... Posted by JEMSaab [Email] (#1053) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JEMSaab) on Fri, 5 Dec 2008 05:11:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The car is a '95 9k Aero 5spd. Every morning when I start it (or any cold start for that matter) the engine ticks. Every time it only does so for a few minutes. The warmer it is outside the quicker the sound goes away. Regardless of temperature it always goes away and the engine idles fine. I'm pretty sure this has to do with the type of oil I have in which is Mobil 1 10W-30. My question is: is there a better oil to use to help this out. I know that the one time I had the shop change my oil the used Amsoil and the sound almost totally went away. I'm not sure what blend they used. Should I be using a 5W-30 or 0W-30? Does it make a difference. I'm not that knowledgable on the the topic, but would love to learn a few things. Let me know what you all think. Thanks in advance!
