Also check the voltage drop along the red battery cable that goes to the starter. Measure the voltage between positive battery post and ground, then on points along that cable. I had internal corrosion in the cable, with about a 3 volt drop, which was enough to at first sporadically engage the starter solenoid, then as it got worse, not at all. I didn't find out what the problem was until it was completely dead. The reduced voltage is adequate to run all of the lights, but not adequate to engage the solenoid. Apparently, it has some sort of voltage threshold, below which it will not engage. If you notice that the voltage drop occurs between the post and the very beginning of the positive cable, it's probably a dirty post, but if the voltage drop then worsens when you check at the starter, the cable is bad. You can trim off the proximal 2 inches or so and re-attach to a new clamp, or just replace the whole cable.
