GP:
My belt broke before I could get around to changing it. Actually, it shucked off one of the outer grooves.
So what happened is this stringy rubber was wrapped around the hubs of the idler pulleys, as they continued to turn.
When I got it apart, new belt only in hand, I found the brief running with the wrapped bits of the belt there had worn away the rubber seal lips on the bearings made into those pulleys.
So I applied STP-type oil into the bearings, put it together again, and ran it only till I got new aftermarket pulleys from Eeuro.
They look pretty good quality. One box said "Made in Taiwan," other didn't say, but the bearings they're made around were just visible: on one they were SKF made in Italy, on the other SKF made in France.
If my pulleys had felt smooth and didn't have any damage, I was planning to reuse them.
