Glad to hear that your son walked away from the accident with no major injuries. This is truly priceless. However, other symptoms may occur days after the accident. Please remember that.
You may want to consider to fill out a car accident claim form for the insurance company. A car accident claim form is not just a document, it's a legal document and must be filled and filed with complete information. Whether you qualify for a claim or not may depend on the way you fill your claim form and all the documents you attach as evidence to prove the accident was caused by the other party. Make sure that there are no inconsistencies/discrepancies existing between the claim form and the police report.
Yaofeng, I'd recommend your son to fill out the claim form since the car accident was caused by someone else's negligence. If the accident was caused by other driver's negligence such as under influence (any type) or driving distractions (fatigue, speeding, aggressive driving, bad weather, negligence of the safety norms, car failure, bad roads etc) it may further complicate the claim down the road.
Hope all goes well.
