Rear door lock: Plastic pivot broke or popped out.

The rear door lock buttons are at the front of the doors, linked to the lock mechanism at the rear of the door via two pivots and a long linking rod.

What happened to you is probably due to stiff and very old lubricant and cold, making the rear lock works fail to operate when the "lock motor" tried to push or pull it.

When you tried to do it manually, the same stiffness made one of the pivot points either snap or pop out of the door. They're light and hollow plastic, with three prongs that pop out into door sheet metal, and three more on interior side of the pivoting piece. They break easy.

Yeah to fix it you've gotta pull the panel off the rear door, get a new plastic pivot or make something up (I used a 1/4-20 socket head cap screw, washer and aircraft nut, with a loop of wire as a bushing-spacer for the pivot part).

Do searches on here and the how-to of door panel removal will come up, and stuff by me on how I lubed the entire lock works back there.

Spray lube may get to the right areas without a complete disassembly but it's not guaranteed.

For now warmer weather will possibly make the rear door lock work with the front door key or the master lock-unlock buttons.
