After you determine there's no obvious coolant leak, try 1/2 bottle of "Barsleaks" pellets and liquid. I use this product as a preventative maintenance item in all my 7 cars. Never replace one heater-core or radiator on all the high mileage automobiles. Check out their web site. Could be a slight crack in the cylinder-head or heater-core. Just solved a major problem with my wife's 97/850 Volvo turbo sedan with barsleaks. Some how, the coolant was getting into the oil and the car was loosing coolant. I fund a lower radiator hose had a small slice in it. Replaced the hose and it still lost coolant with slight foaming of oil. Checked the compression and all was great. So I figured maybe the head gasket breached around the water/oil ports. I have everything to do the job except for the special tools I need to make for the job. The car has a 5 cylinder turbo engine and need special tools to do the job. Since the shop lift isn't ready yet, I decided to use the barsleaks. By putting 1/2 bottle of the pellets and liquid into the microwave until hot, then crushing everything into a slurry, add the mixture. Drove the car for a half hour and problem was repaired. Many people are against this product, but that-because of misuse-age where their cars have clogged heater-cores and radiators. Do what you want, but I swear by this product,"Barsleaks" pellets.
