First it'll probably blow a seal and leak the fluid all over the place.
After that you'll probably have a little while / a few miles before it seizes or otherwise decides to come apart - either of which could mess with the serp belt failure - which could cause your engine to overheat if it continued to run.
On my current 9000, the ps pump rumbled some when I bought it - but somebody had filled it with dexron or some other red fluid. I swapped it over to valvoline synthetic and its been quiet since.
On the 9K before that - the seals on the ps pump went one night. I picked up a used pump from the local recycler - getting the bad pump out was tough because the hose connections on the back of the pump are really hard to get at. I ended up cutting off the pulley (used one came with the pulley) so I could get at the connections.
