that's a negative ghost rider...

something is amiss, but you already know that. You should be able to put any radio in a like din box and input the radio code.

Now that said, some of the boxes are configurable... If the configuration can include an outboard din box for an EQ or CD/EQ and you don't have it plugged in... there is a jumper on the back of the "master" box where the radio is. It's not very impressive, it looks like a plastic cap to protect the DIN style cable, but if you find it (usually it's attached by a plastic lanyard, think lens cover on your digital camera) you look inside and see two copper pin contacts. This needs to be plugged in the master DIN box to "turn the signal around" into the security code circuit so that it is faked out thinking the outboard DIN box is plugged in.

So, look very closely at the old box and see if something looks like this.
