I pull up to a parking spot near a trout stream, get out to get geared up, and smell coolant. Pop the hood, look around, everything seems ok but the top radiator hose isn't firm. Plenty of coolant in the reservoir. No steam or obvious leaks. Oil filler cap isn't looking creamy. Scratch head, go fishing.
On the drive home, coolant level light comes on. Home's not far, temp gauge reads ok, I kept going.
In the driveway at home, I look again - and as its cooling down - I see a drop of coolant fall on the tranny from the heater hose outlet connection.
As that hose aged, it got soft and split at the hose clamp. That's probably the hottest spot (coolant-wise) on the head, so it'd be the first hose to age out.
I lopped off the end of the hose, put it back, no leaks, but replacing that hose is on my list of things to do. Rock Auto lists a replacement hose for like 4 bucks....
