The bulbs burn out Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Electronic Display Unit (EDU), SP93CSE, Sat, 9 May 2009 19:39:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
With the car on, shine a flashlight at the EDU. Can you read the numbers? If you hit INFO, do they change?
The EDU is backlit with two bulbs. They do burn out. I'd suspect that it was unevenly lit before - only one bulb was lit. When the second bulb goes, the display goes out.
Replacing the bulbs are a bit of a pain, because you need to remove the dash top.
I assume the rest of the dash lights are working.
The other option is a bad clock/trip computer. Saab had the 'blackout' function, where if you hit INFO and R for less than 4 seconds, the EDU would go out. It would come back on if you hit any button, or the car was switched off. The clock/trip computer drives the EDU backlight. A bad transistor driver in the computer would cause both bulbs to turn off at the same time.
So - was the display unevenly lit before it went out?
