Hi all, my 1992 Turbo 5 spd with 243k runs erratically when it gets to operating temperature. Once the dash temp gauge shows 8 o'clock, or in other words, after driving 1-2 miles (2-3 min) after a cold start.
The TCS light comes on, and the car is in Limp home mode, but the strange thing is the tachometer (and engine speed) bounces erratically. I never had this in other LHM episodes.
Next day starts fine and idles smoothly, until reaching operating temp.
Engine temp sensor reads about 3k Ohm when cold, similar to a new one. Don't know what it reads when hot.
I have had it at my indy for a couple weeks, waiting for him to put the scan tool on it.
I expect him to say 'I can't communicate with the Throttle body. It needs to be replaced'. (with original TB, this may be true)
Last time I had trouble, it was solved by replacing the ETS (throttle body) computer under the driver seat. Thanks to the Ultima people, I held back replacing the TB at that time, although the shop wanted to replace it.
However, while I am waiting the shop diagnosis, I am wondering how one can test a Crank Position sensor? Or a Mass Air Flow Sensor? What are the failure symptoms? When ETS computer failed, car flat out wouldn't hardly run even when cold.
This current problem points to device malfunctioning when warm, such as CPS. But, CPS does trip Limp Home mode? Or maybe this time it truly is time to rebuild/replace the original TB?
