Hello,

I'm a Saab guy for sure...I'm on #10 in my life. But I've only owned one 9000. It was a 1988 bought very used in the late 90's and it was a piece of junk, to be honest. Mostly because of the way it had not been properly cared for by the previous owner. It had automatic transmission problems and the infamous heater core leaks (in fact somewhere on this site is my photo essay on replacing the heater core).

I currently drive a 2008 9-3 Aero, but am feeling a great hole in my life, not having an older Saab hanging around that I can use for whatever and not have to worry about getting a scratch here and there.

Relatively close to me there is a 1987 9000S 5-speed for sale that is reported to be in excellent condition inside and out, with 188k on the clock. I am very familiar with the 900 models from this same era, specifically the pre-1988 brake systems on the 900 series, but am not so familiar with the 9000.

My question is, did the 9000 back in 1987 have the same type of high maintenance sliding caliper brakes as the 900? Is there anything else peculiar to this year that I should look for if I go check out this car?

I've never owned a Saab that didn't have a turbo engine, so this would be a new thing for me, having a NA engine. Wanting to spend only a small amount of money and not wanting to drive halfway around the country to buy a spare second car, this 9000S relatively close to me seems appealing.

Any help or advice you can offer would be most appreciated. Thanks!
