The "moaning" alternator

I posted the other day about a moan in my '96 9K. I have been in different time zones than the car, so it has been hard to diagnose, but today I drove from NH to NYC, then out to mid-Long Island.
The moan changes with RPM in a pretty linear fashion, but from the driver's seat you can't tell where it's coming from. But I noticed that my alternator is not putting out it's usual 14-14.2 volts and when I open the hood and rev the engine there is a whine from the alternator that is pretty close to what is the moan I hear from inside the car.
So it looks like it's alternator time. So the question:
eEuro has rebuilt Bosch 90 amp and 120 amp alternators. I have no idea what I have in the car or what to get. How do I know? Bear in mind I'm in a hotel with no tools and and no time to dig into this, but I want to order the parts to have them when I get home.
Or should I be thinking differently on this? I think I've replaced maybe one alternator or generator in 40 years of car ownership, so it's not something I know much about.
Thanks, guys!
