so, i know this isn't saab related, but cause we're one big happy family...
a friend of mine has a '77 Ford LTD, ran beautifully, took it into a local shop for an oil change and inspection sticker. while they were doing the oil change, he was outside on business calls. he recalls hearing the engine revving, but wasn't paying attention.
after the oil change/inspection, they drove the car outside and parked it. he went to drive away and heard a knocking sound upon start up.
they took it back inside and diagnosed a skipped timing chain. so, he was in for $600 for a timing chain job. later in the day he gets a call valves were damaged and he's in for a $2100 total repair bill to rebuild.
he tells them to keep the car, and they tell them they'll come down to $1600 total.
question is, was this a fluke? what could they have done? they weren't out joy-riding. maybe they forgot to fill it with oil?
ironically, the garage is part owned by his cousin or uncle or something so he's in a tough spot with legal action.
any thoughts?
