The stuff on the outside of the seams will remain tacky for years. Wipe the seams down with paper towels to make it look presentable and don't worry about it. One of the sealant's performance parameters is that it remain pliant, and not become hard and brittle. That is why it works best on flange-type, low pressure, metal to metal interfaces. I would be surprised if an auto repair shop waited more than 60 minutes after using Loctite 518 and filling the sump with oil. About the amount of time it would take to put the engine back into the car.
