Good call on doing the trans yourself. I didn't have the time or patience to try this one myself. I'd recommend replacing the shift coupler and subframe bushings as well at this time.

I learned my lesson the hard way about rebuilt transaxles. It should have been obvious to me, but apparently they don't replace everything that is a wear item, just the ones that are not within spec. On my $1800 rebuilt trans, the $19 internal speedo gear took a dump after 8mos. Luckily it didn't affect my boost, but I was able to drive the car for another 2 yrs. Recently located a used trans for $500 and just finished a roadtrip from Portland to Lake Tahoe and back with no issues. Car has 260K.
