Winter wheel dilemma...looking for some opinions Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Sun, 4 Oct 2009 17:44:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
As sad as it is, we're approaching the time when I need to start thinking about getting my 9000 set for the long New England winter. As some of you may recall, my 9000 is now a fall/winter-only car. I plan on taking my 9-3 'vert off the road and putting the 9k back on around the middle of next month.
I parked my 9000 with 3 cheap Saab steel wheels with Gislaved NordFrost 2s from 2004. Oh and 1 no-name NTB snow tire mounted on a random Saab alloy rim (pothole claimed my 4th matching steel wheel and Gislaved in March). Needless to say, I need rims and/or tires.
I have a set of really nice Fondmetal Super CS wheels (pic below) that I NEVER EVER ran in the winter. But now that my 9k is a winter-only car, I feel bad that they're just sitting in my garage. Would I be crazy to put some Hakkas or Blizzaks on these and run them in the winter? Will I lose winter capabilities because they are a fatter wheel (205-60-15)? Or should I just find a matching skinny steel cheapo and get new snows for my current ones?
Thanks for your opinions! I've been debating this since the first time the top went down on my 9-3 in April!!
