I have the same car, and I feel your pain. I'm planning an LPT conversion after everything is repaired and I finish studying the subject.
You said you did the spark test, right? If you got spark, the DI is working and you should check elsewhere. If not, remove the cover of the cassette and inspect the coils. If they're leaking, you probably need a new DI. If that's negative, get a volt meter and test the leads on the cord. You should get 12V. If you get nothing, or would rather a professional investigation, a Saab indie should be able to test your cassette. Were you misfiring before this no-start dilemma? That's often a sign of a failing DI.
Have you checked the pump? If it's working, you would have smelled gas after cranking for a while, and you would definitely notice the odor after removing the plugs. By the way, how do the plugs look? Gapped properly (.9 to 1.1mm)? Electrodes healthy?
Other tests:
-Crank and have a friend listen for the pump whine outside by the gas tank
-Jump two fuses (16 and 22?? check other posts for that info) and listen for the pump
-Remove the trunk floor (on a CD, two screws under the door; something similar on the hatch, I expect), unscrew the pump retaining ring (make a removal ring out of 4" pvc and a saw, or get the special pump removal tool and a new ring/gasket from eeuro.), and jump the pump.
Smacking the pump also seems to help (I did this two years ago while I waited for the new pump to arrive). Pull it out, connect it to the battery, and tap it with something. Maybe Walbro has some design flaw that affects the brushes when they're worn? Who knows, but it often works. This is obviously a temporary solution while you wait for your replacement.
Keep in mind the pump is submerged and gas will be exposed.
Another, much less likely culprit, could be the injectors. If, by some miracle, every injector failed, or the umbilical cord connecting the injectors was severed, you'd get no start, no gas smell, but pump whine. Could also be blockage in the fuel line, possibly at the fuel filter (under the right-rear door).
Try opening the throttle a little as you crank; perhaps the idle control is stuck closed.
