Sensor wires losing insulation - intake

The sensor embedded in the alum intake pipe a few inches before it enters the rubber elow to the throttle body, has black and white wires that have exposed wire. The red connector pulls the wires pretty tight and that has probably caused this. Cut a few inches down the wires, thread on shrink tubing, then reconnect?
Suggestions to fix this?
