Tensioner pulley

I just finished re-installing the engine in my 97 CS after replacing the #4 rod bearing shells. All fluids in, no leaks, and a fresh battery. When the engine was out, I discovered the tensioner bracket was rusted stuck. A trip to the bone yard yielded a suitable replacement, which I disassembled, polished the pivot, greased, and fitted it. To my joy, the engine started almost immediately, yet when blipping the throttle, I noticed a significant mist. HAH! The fuel return hose had popped off, spraying raw fuel on the alternator! YIKES>>> OK. Fixed that and started again. A lumpy idle. Hmmm. Pulled the DI cassette and noted the holes were oil filled. The plugs were black- -fuel fouled. NP. Fitted new plugs. Started the engine again. Vacuumed down the AC system. Then a puff of smoke from the serpentine belt area and the engine stopped. I managed to restart it, despite the starter's objections of what sounded like low battery charge, only to witness a larger cloud of smoke from the belt area again. The belt was intact- -the tensioner pulley was not. It's plastic was shredded exposing the center metal core. Shame on me for recycling the tensioner pulley! Now I get to take the right inner fender off and do it one more time.
Remind me again WHY I like these cars so much?
Happy Trails,
-Senor Don
