As long as the noises are coming from the top of the engine, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It most likely the hydraulic lifters not pumping up fully until the oil warms up. These engines tend to have a fairly noisy valve train and it's not really an indicator of excessive wear. The lifters aren't hard to replace, but there's a lot of them, they're pretty expensive, and good luck figuring out which ones are causing the noise. You might also be suprised how much of a racket the fuel injectors make, so make sure you're not confusing the injectors and tappets (which are pretty close).
If the noise is coming from down low, then check the accessories or be scared the bottom end is going out, but my guess is you just have a normal noisy top end and are hearing it more now due to the cold mornings.
Keep that beast on the road - there are way too few early 9ks on the board these days!
